DeltaXML ODT Review

DeltaXML ODT Review graphic

DeltaXML ODT Review takes DeltaXML ODT Compare a step further: it shows you changes made between multiple versions of a document, all in a single document. DeltaXML ODT Review assembles changes between versions into one document so that you can see all the changes in one place, e.g. how a paragraph has been modified over time.

ODT Review has these use cases:

  • to review changes between several versions of a document as it changes over time, e.g. versions extracted from a content management system (CMS);
  • to review changes as a document is exchanged several times between two parties and updated by each of them, e.g. a 'travelling draft' for a contract negotiation;

How is DeltaXML ODT Review different from 'Track Changes'?

1. How changes are displayed

DeltaXML ODT Review shows the history of changes by showing changes by each author/version in a copy of each paragraph, so it is easier to see what changed between each successive version. Tracked Changes represents all the changes into one copy of the text so it is difficult to see how the paragraph has developed over time, and it quickly becomes confusing for more than two or three edits.

2. Flexibility to ignore minor revisions

You can generate a DeltaXML Review output from any set of versions, you do not need to have track changes 'on' (if there are tracked changes present, these will be 'accepted' as the document is loaded). This means you can review changes between minor revisions or between major revisions as needed. Using the API, this can be integrated into your CMS.

The output from ODT Review is intended for viewing only and not as a basis for a new version - if you need to combine edits from multiple users into a single document, see ODT Merge.
